Brendan’s Bridge were awarded £750 from the High Sheriff Grants programme towards their project to support young people on the edge of criminal activities in the Tredworth area to engage in their community through sporting activities such as skateboarding, basketball and football.
“We are always facing safeguarding issues from this group of young people due to the prevalence of gang related activity in this area and linked to relatives of many of the young people – however our charity works very closely with neighbourhood policing teams and, in particular, the Gang Reduction and Intervention Pilot.
The young people we now work with were mainly hanging around on the streets and in the parks. They miss school – some not attending for more than a year. We have engaged them, built trust and even worked with other agencies to get young people back into school, engaged in positive activities, talking to police about crime in their area.”
