The Rock supports young people at a time of transition

The Rock received a grant of £2,500 from the High Sheriff Grant programme towards ‘Transition Night Tuesdays’ for young people.

The evening enables primary pupils in years 5 and 6 to meet secondary pupils in year 7. Through a range of positive activities – games, sports, drama, beat boxing, circus skills, to name just a few, they can make friends. Each week they discuss a topic of relevance regarding the transition from primary to secondary school.  The young people arrive from 6pm and move around the hall greeting each other. Some may go to the Upper room where a pool table and board games are available. Others may start a game of air hockey.

Once everyone has arrived the group will be called together for their planned activity for about 30 to 40 minutes. At about mid-point everyone heads upstairs for ‘group time’ and refreshments. After this everyone may return to the sports hall for a game, such as 4-square or handball.

The session helps young people transition from primary to secondary school, and provides fun, positive role models and supports young people who are at the margins or struggling with problems in life. It is very popular with young people in the local area and lots of fun!

Transition Night Tuesdays

The children enjoy getting involved, learning to work with others and find coping with challenges easier.
