Supporting Young People

GCF supported Hope Support Services with a £3,000 grant. The grant, awarded from the Ecclesiastical endowment, will help young people in Gloucestershire whose families are affected by life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer.

The funding will enable Hope to increase the activities they offer to young people in the city, providing them with more opportunities to have fun and share their experiences with others facing similar challenges.

The charity already provides a full programme of support in the Forest of Dean and Herefordshire. However, it is only currently able to run one activity session a month in Gloucester. With the help of this grant from Ecclesiastical, Hope plans to run sessions fortnightly, and increase the number of young people in the city accessing small group and weekend activity and support.

“We’re delighted to be able to provide this funding that will help Hope Support Services to continue and expand the great work they are already doing with young people in Gloucestershire.

This project will mean that young people in the city going through really tough times can access more activities and support to improve their quality of life and can connect with others who understand what they are going through.”

"The range of activities we provide are engaging, exciting and often active. They provide a positive distraction for the young people we support in the midst of a very upsetting and negative situation and often give them a break from their caring responsibilities at home. Through these sessions, strong relationships and support networks are built between young people with shared experiences. We know how important this is to help them find a way through the challenges they are facing."
